spacerThe New England Comprehensive Center acts on behalf of all students in New England by working with education leaders in each state to fulfill the promise of No Child Left Behind.

As part of the development phase of the statewide Pre–K literacy plan, the NECC worked with the Massachusetts Department of Education's Office of Reading in 2006 and 2007 to support the use of evidence-based findings on adolescent literacy strategies and to assist in the statewide task force's guidance and planning activities. Once approval for plan implementation is received, NECC will support the department in its dissemination and implementation efforts.

NECC is providing intensive support to the Accountability and Targeted Assistance division in the development of a new statewide strategy to support district improvement for districts in corrective action. MADOE has asked NECC to assist them in developing a system of educational service cooperatives that would provide supports to districts with limited capacity to lead and support school improvement. Toward that end, NECC is identifying and summarizing available research, engaging other states with similar strategies underway, and convening a Massachusetts work group in the development of the strategy.

Finally, the Center is engaging mathematics leaders in the state in dialogue about research to inform mathematics education in the commonwealth. The Center provides consultation to the department on changes in program approval and certification policy for mathematics teacher preparation.
